Durian Jokes

I was looking at a bunch durians and told the taukea:

"Penangites are interesting ..."

the taukea ask:

"what do you mean?"

I said:

"don't you think so, the names of these durian are cool"

The taukea smiled and proudly said:

"Do you wanna try ling-fung-jiao, it looks small, but is has this strong aroma.

If not do you wanna try ling-qing-xia? not only it looks good, it taste bitter sweet."

I said:

"alrite! alrite! lets try 2 of each"
Honestly after trying them , they do indeed tasted not bad at all.

And then the taukea said:

"Do you wanna try our latest durian brand?"

I said:

"You have new brands too!"
"Yes! This new brand is called Koh Tsu Khoon."

I was amazed and ask:

"What is so special about this one?"
"This brand is actually not very special, but it has something that all other brand doesn't have."
"err! and what is that?"

The taukea smiled and said:

"That is because this brand is BO HOOD (tak dak biji)"

Don’t worry Malaysian, we are still better than Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei & Laos.

Don’t worry Malaysian, we are still better than Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei & Laos. Malaysia Boleh…Cheers!!

Malaysia's precipitous drop in inward foreign direct investments and an increase in outward foreign direct investments mark a complete lack of confidence in Malaysia's economy

Tony Pua

The recent release of World Foreign Investment Report (WIR) 2010 by United Nations Conference of Trade and Development (UNCTAD) provided a picture that is nothing short of grim and ugly for the Malaysian economy especially in its attractiveness as a local and foreign investment destination. While the headline 81% drop in foreign direct investment (FDI) from US$7.32 billion to US$1.38 billion can be brushed of as a 'blip' due to a global financial and economic crisis in 2008-2009, a more in-depth study reveals that it was certainly not a one-off.

Our country's leadership should instead heed the loud alarm bells the data presented to prevent our economy from drifting aimless to a point of no return. The UNCTAD WIR 2010 data revealed five firsts for Malaysia:

1. For the first time ever in history, Malaysia attracted less investment than the Philippines

http://i967.photobucket.com/albums/ae159/Malaysia-Today/Combat/chart1.jpgMalaysia has lost out to Thailand in FDI for the very first time in 1998 while Indonesia exceeded us recently for the first time in 2005. Vietnam on the other hand, beat us in FDI for the very first time the year before, in 2008. While we have come to accept Thailand, Vietnam and even Indonesia as having gained competitiveness against Malaysia in recent years, we are suffering ignominy of attracting lower FDI compared to the Philippines for the first time ever in history. The Philippines attracted US$1.95 billion in FDI compared to Malaysia's US$1.38 billion.

Among Southeast Asian nations, we are now only attracting more FDI than Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei, Laos and Timor-Leste. And for the first time ever, what was previously unimaginable that we may one day be compared to countries such as Cambodia and Myanmar is now a real possibility.

2. Compared to the previous year 2008, Malaysia suffered by far the biggest decline of FDI in Southeast Asia

3. Malaysia was the only country in Southeast Asia to have register a net negative Foreign Direct Investment Flow

4. For the first time ever, cumulative Outward FDI Stock exceeded cumulative FDI Inward Stock

5. Barring a “blip” in 2001 when we attracted only US$0.55 billion in FDI, this is the first time we've attracted less than US$2 billion in FDI over the past 20 years

Why And How Greece Collapsed? Sound Familiar?

I have just watched a documentary regarding Greece 's financial and am appalled ! These are the why's and how's that this historic and beautiful country came to grieve.

Bureaucracy: Greece's bureaucracy is famous in the whole of Europe ! To open a cafe or pub there are 25 processes to go through !! This is a country of rules and regulations.

Bloated civil service: There are 1.05 million civil servants (excluding police and armed forces) . The population of Greece is only 10 million !! More than 10% are govt servants !! Salary increases every year and benefit for civil servants in Greece is one of the best in Europe !! More and more money is needed to upkeep this bloated civil servants . The retirement age is 62 yrs old.

Corruption: Greece is the most corrupted nation in the Euro zone. Citizens pay "under table " money to:

# admit into a public hospital

# pass a driving license

# to enter public service

# renovate your business premises or your home

# avoid income tax

Every govt project is awarded to political cronies and at hugely inflated prices ! Transparency International compared the prices of the construction costs of stadiums built for the Athens Olympics recently with similar structures in China --500% more expensive than the Chinese , compared to Los Angeles and Sydney -- 50 % more expensive !!! All these with tax payers money ! and borrowings !!!

Tax evasion: Officially 80% of its citizens are supposed to pay tax but only 37% are doing so. Big businessmen and corporations have refined tax evasion to a fine art ( or have the tax men taken some coffee money ? )

No transparency in governance: The politicians and bureaucrats falsified economic data and painted a rosy and manageable picture while the economy was rotting away .

Unabated borrowings: Meanwhile, the politicians and bureaucrats continue to issue govt bonds to keep afloat, series after series. They were trying to cover up the financial mess they have created creating one big hole to cover up the previous !!

Lacking political will power to reform: To keep hold on to political power, politicians are prepared to lie, commit economic and political fraud. If reforms were taken some five years ago , the country need not go bankrupt and its citizens need not suffer so much. Political expediency and greed to political power over-rides everything and hence Greece is now a bankrupt country. Luckily, it is part of the European Union and its currency is Euros, otherwise Greeks will have to eat grass to survive !!

Laid back attitude: Tourism is THE ONLY industry in Greece and over the years the Greeks have had an easy time. Many flocked to see the historical sites. enjoy summer vacation on the islands. But they forgot that not many tourists will returned after visiting the sites --there are so many other tourists attractions in the world, maybe more exotic and perhaps cheaper !! So once tourism vanes and couple with higher costs of living --the Greeks could not and refused to adapt and transform --still partying and having a nice time -- maybe the Greek Gods will bless them !!! Greece have no natural resources, no electronics industry , no R & D --no anything !! They were so laid back --cannot see what is coming and crashing down on them. Even now, the civil servants refused to take a pay cut -- the world owes them a living !!

Poignant Conclusion:

The producer of the documentary had hired a taxi driver to go around while doing this documentary. The taxi driver had studied economics for 4 years in US and this was his parting words:

"My biggest mistake was returning 15 years ago, I should have stayed back in US. My nationalist instinct made me returned. The politicians screwed me. I loved my country but my country did not love me !!!!

Friends, I can see a lot of similarity in Malaysia . I need not go into boring details, it is there for all to realize. Unless we transform politically and economically, sadly this day will surely come . It is not IF, but WHEN !!

1MALAYSIA???

MALAYSIA BOLEH???

Car Prices In Malaysia

Posted by Syed Akbar Ali

Digest this article, after that, you may need to vomit. What is the Malaysian Govt doing all these while. Ripping off our Rakyat for the last 30 yrs with APs designed to benefit a few well connected Bumis, the UMNO/BN have robbed millions of citizens in this fiasco, under the pretext of protecting our local industry. The Govt have forgotten we Malays are the largest customers in the country. What is the NEP policy doing ?? Ripping off the Malays (which forms 65% of the consumer base) to benefit a few UMNO politicians !!!

BMW 535i
sells for RM178,000 in the US

In the United States of America
(a developed country which we are also aspiring to become by the year 2020) a 2009 model BMW 535i Sedan is selling for about USD50,367.00. This is only RM178,000 - about the price of a Toyota Camry 2..4L here in Malaysia .
The same BMW sells in Malaysia for about RM450,000.

BMW 328i
sells for RM155,000 in the US

The 2009 model BMW 328i 2 door Convertible sells for USD44,014 or RM155,36900 in the US
In Malaysia the same car sells for over
RM460,000.
This is an untenable situation.

Audi A4 2.0T Cabriolet Convertible
sells for RM142,000 in the US

The 2009 model Audi A4 2 Door 2.0T Cabriolet Convertible sells in the US for USD40,328.00 or RM142,357.
In Malaysia the same car would sell for about RM265,000.

VW GTI 2.0T
sells for RM85,000 in the US

In the US the 2009 model Volkswagen GTI 2.0T sells for USD 24,039 or RM85,000 only.
In China the same car will cost around RM60,000. Over here the same VW car sells for about RM200,000.

And the 2010 model
Toyota Camry 2.4L sells in the US for USD 19,659...00 or RM69,396 In Malaysia the 2008 Toyota Camry 2.4L sells for RM170,000. Toyota Camry 2.4L, 2010 model. RM69,000 in the US

Car prices in Malaysia are about three times higher than the prices in the United States .
We are a developing nation. Our land and labour costs are so much cheaper than the US . Why are our cars so expensive? It does not make any sense. Tak masuk akal.

Then here are some car prices from our neighbour Indonesia
.
The
Toyota Altis sells in Indonesia for about RM46,000. The same car sells here for around RM 112,000. Again we are three times more expensive than Indonesia

The Honda Jazz sells here for RM108,000
.. In Indonesia the Jazz sells for RM 36,000. Three times more expensive.

We are paying ridiculously high prices (and actually impoverishing the Malays - who are the largest buyers of cars in Malaysia ) to support an out of date, out of touch with reality motor car policy.

We are paying the highest car prices in the world to support the Proton and other locally made cars as well as support a mind boggling AP policy which only benefits a relatively few rich Malays
. A disproportionately large number of Malays and other Malaysians are
being impoverished to subsidise the wealth of a few inefficient rich.

26 million Malaysians have to pay three times more for their cars just to support Proton and 120,000 people who are directly and indirectly involved in the motor sector in Malaysia and the AP holders. That is a ratio of 216:1.

This ratio of 216:1 is too skewed. 26.0 million happier people can contribute many more votes than 120,000 members of an inefficient motor industry.. 26 million unhappy people can change a Government. (The maths is not really difficult here)

And this outdated policy is impoverishing the Malays more than anyone else.

Here is some news from our DPM Tan Sri Muhyudin Yassin about our car policy. This is truncated:

Muhyiddin assures govt support for automotive parts and component sector

1. KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 - The deputy prime minister said special focus will be given to "facilitate and encourage" the development of the automotive parts and component sector despite the current global and regional economic downturn.

2. "Under the CEPT and Asean Trade in Goods Agreements, Malaysia has agreed to eliminate import duties on all products in the Normal Track on January 1, 2010. This includes motor vehicles, auto parts and components," he said.

3. He pointed out that the motor vehicle sub sector in Malaysia will not be directly impacted because of its heavy dependence on the domestic market.

4. "The Malaysian government recognises the contribution of the domestic automotive industry towards the development of the country."

Para 2 sounds promising but then Para 3 and 4 basically says that the Malaysian motor car industry will continue to be protected. This means we will continue paying the highest car prices in the world for automobiles.

This is like giving the car buyer an RM1000 pay rise without incurring any extra costs for the taxpayer, the Government or the economy. It will greatly reduce the cost of living in Malaysia and spur greater economic growth too.

In absolute numbers, the Malays are suffering the most because they are the most in number among the fixed income people who also buy cars.

Some folks said the other day that Proton has 150 major component suppliers, dealers, distributors and about 500 other parts suppliers too. Of the 150 major component suppliers, about 15 of them are listed companies. In total they employ about 120,000 people. The Proton supply chain is a mix of bumiputras and non bumiputras. But here is a sad fact : none of them are operating at their level best efficiency.

Our motor car policy is forcing Malaysians to subsidise Proton so that Proton can sustain major inefficiencies in the Malaysian economy.. This is not a good thing at all.

We have to unwind this situation. Set a target of 18 months from now to unwind all protection for our motor industry. Remove the impoverishing AP policy also in 18 months. Let Malaysian car prices reflect world market prices for the same makes of cars.

If a BMW 535 sells for RM178,000 in America , it should sell for a little less here in Malaysia (our rentals and salaries are cheaper). Fw: Car Prices In Malaysia

The Ministers continue making pronouncements about the car industry as though nothing has happened. I hope everyone will please wake up. The Government has a real chance of getting thrown out of office in about three years. The people will not accept inept answers anymore.

The ridiculous car prices in Malaysia is an issue that is just beginning to get more attention and publicity. It is going to become a really big issue in the near future. Be forewarned.

8 Billion Dollars Man

Picture Shown Is Wildcat Armored Wheeled Vehicle (not DRB-Hicom design)

Rakyat diutamakan
Barisan Nasional beli kenderaan berharga 8 billion
8 billion = RM 8,000,000,000
8 billion = RM 1,000,000,000 X 8
8 billion = RM 1,000,000 x 1,000 x 8
Tony Pua slams BN's decision to buy 256 vehicles for 8 billion ringgit

by Hemananthani Sivanandam

KUALA LUMPUR (April 22, 2010): Opposition leaders are urging the government to review and cancel the contract to purchase 257 8x8 Armoured-Wheeled Vehicle (8x8 AWV) for an "astronomical" amount of RM8 billion.

"We would like to state upfront that we are disgusted by the transaction. The amount is shocking as each of these non-combat vehicles is priced at a ridiculous RM31.1 million," said Tony Pua (DAP-PJ Utara).

On Tuesday, DRB-Hicom Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd (Deftech)’s chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil Jamil announced at a press conference during the 12th Defence Services Asia 2010 Exhibition that the government has given Deftech a letter of intent, entrusting it to develop the 8x8 AWV programme with the support of the Defence Ministry, Malaysian Army and the Malaysian Defence Industry Council.

"We have an order for 257 8x8 AWV units but right now, we are going to come up with the prototypes meant for testing purposes by the army before we develop the whole range of armoured vehicles," Mohd Khamil was quoted saying.

Pua said the amount was shocking as other armoured vehicles in other countries cost far less.

"The Portugese army bought 353 Pandur II 8x8 armoured vehicles for the amout of 364 million euros (RM1.56billion) or an average of 1.03 million euros or only RM4.41 million each.

"In 2009, the U.S Army has awarded a US$2.2 billion contract to General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada, one of the best military vehicle and equipment manufacturer in the world for 724 Light Armoured vehicles (LAV) equivalent of USD$3.04 million or only RM9.9million each meant for Saudi Arabia.

"Even the best-in-class main battle tank produced in the United States , M1Abrams M1A2 deployed extensively in Iraq , Kuwait , Saudi Arabia and Australia cost only US$6.1 million or approximately RM19.7 million.

"Despite the price-tag, Deftech admits that they are only at the stage of developing a prototype. The prototype hasn’t been tested but the contract is already out" Pua told reporters at Parliament lobby today.

Pua also said the Barisan Nasional government is "clearly missing the woods for the trees" in the financial management of the country.

"At the same time when the Ministry of Finance has issued strict treasury circulars for all ministries to reduce their operational expenditure by as much as 20%, the Ministry (of Defence) commits to a purchase that completely mocks the attempt by the government to be thrifty," said Pua.

"We hope the Ministry of Defence will now inform us that this is another decimal point error in the contract value," said Pua jokingly. The Sun

The question here is not whether we need the AWV but rather why are we paying exorbitant price (again!) for something not proven or tested ? Maybe somewhere, someone is getting huge commission for these purchases.

The longer we keep the present government, the faster the country will go bankrupt due to corruption. Then with deminished natural resources, human expertise (due to migration), lack of foreign investments and coupled by tidak-apa attitude of the people, how in the world can Malaysia survive?

RM800K for IPOH sign. Lucky our city's got a short name. Or else pokai!

Guess how much this " IPOH " signage cost?

According to
Malaysian Insider, Ipoh City Council confirmed that a total of RM800,000 was spent on 2 of these giant signs.

That's RM400,000 per sign. Or RM100,000 per letter.

The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) ex-state govt said that the palace proposed the signs (and proposed 4 signs rather than the current 2). PR rejected it. BN usurped the state. Signs were then built and RM800,000 changed hands.

Look... I'm no construction engineer or signage expert, so I'm just pulling assumptions out of my ass. But I'm pretty sure RM800,000 can put a lot of stuff on the slope of those hills. Even if these signs were made of virgin marble, it wouldn't cost that much. Heck.. even if they were made from virgins, it wouldn't cost that much.

So, I'm asking. PR should be asking. The people of Perak should be asking...
  • WHO WAS THE CONTRACTOR WHO POCKETED THE RM800,000? IS HE LINKED TO THE PALACE OR ANY POLITICIAN?
  • HOW MUCH LESS WOULD IT HAVE COST UNDER A COMPETITIVE TENDER?

By 2030, China will add more new city-dwellers than the entire U.S. population.

China already consumes twice as much steel as the US, Europe and Japan combined.

China is the steel market.

Even in 2010, as developed nation steel demand is expected to rebound, Chinese steel demand will still dwarf all other major economies.

This also means that China drives the seaborne iron ore and coking coal markets as well, as these commodities are key ingredients in steel.

Meanwhile, Italy has just 60 million people in total, of which only 79% are Christian these days. Which means Italy has 47.4 million Christians, a full 12% less than China . It's partly because 16% of Italians are now irreligious.

Moreover, China 's Christian population is set to grow far more rapidly than Italy 's, or even much of the world's even.

"...is not going to stop China from soon becoming home to the largest Christian population on the globe, says the Archbishop of Canterbury , Rowan Williams, in an excellent and well-balanced article he recently wrote for the Great Britain-China Centre."

Chinese are far more likely to believe in evolution than Americans.

"Only Russia (48%), USA (42%), South Africa (41%) and Egypt (25%) remained sceptical about the scientific evidence that exists to support Darwin ’s theory.

The results also show that a significant proportion of those people surveyed in the USA , South Africa and India (43%) believe that all life on Earth, including human life, has always existed in its current form.

In all other countries, people in China (74%), Mexico (69%), Argentina (68%), Great Britain (63%) Russia , Spain (56%), and Egypt (52%) were of the view that more people thought that life on Earth, including human life, evolved over time either by a process guided by God or as a result of natural selection in which no God played a part."

Chinese internet users are five times as likely to have blogs as Americans.

http://static.businessinsider.com/image/4b7e8d2600000000000fd229-400-300/chinese-internet-users-are-five-times-as-likely-to-have-blogs-as-americans.jpg
Yet these prolific bloggers are under the watchful eye of an internet police army:

"Although the existence of an internet police force - estimated at more than 30,000 - has been known for some time, attention has previously focused on their work as censors and monitors. Countless critical comments appear on bulletin boards of major portals such as Sohu and Sina only to be erased minutes, or sometimes just seconds, later. In the most recent case, all postings that blamed corrupt local officials or slow-moving police for the deaths of 88 children in floods last Friday were removed almost as soon as they appeared."

China has 150% more soldiers than America does, plus a high tech 'Kill Weapon' the U.S. can't deal with.

http://static.businessinsider.com/image/4b7e41800000000000e20ffb-400-300/china-has-150-more-soldiers-than-america-does-plus-a-high-tech-kill-weapon-the-us-cant-deal-with.jpg

China has about 3.4 million active military personnel compared to America 's 1.4 million. Moreover, in some key spaces, China might even have a tech advantage:

“After years of conjecture, details have begun to emerge of a "kill weapon" developed by the Chinese to target and destroy U.S. aircraft carriers.

"The size of the missile enables it to carry a warhead big enough to inflict significant damage on a large vessel, providing the Chinese the capability of destroying a U.S. supercarrier in one strike. Because the missile employs a complex guidance system, low radar signature and a maneuverability that makes its flight path unpredictable, the odds that it can evade tracking systems to reach its target are increased. It is estimated that the missile can travel at mach 10 and reach its maximum range of 2000km in less than 12 minutes."

"If operational as is believed, the system marks the first time a ballistic missile has been successfully developed to attack vessels at sea. Ships currently have no defense against a ballistic missile attack.”

"[2009:] China has ended a quarantine blockade around a remote northwestern town hit by pneumonic plague, Xinhua news agency reported late on Saturday.

"The outbreak of the highly infectious disease killed three villagers around Ziketan Town in Qinghai province, Xinhua reported. But with no new infections reported for over a week, authorities decided to lift the blockade on the remote town of 10,000 in a heavily ethnic Tibetan area, Xinhua reported. China experiences sporadic outbreaks of the plague, which is typically spread by rodents and fleas and can pass easily between people."

Some even suspect Chinese animal markets to be breeding grounds for new killer bugs.

"We face similar threats from other viruses and such epidemics can happen because we continue to have very crowded markets in China ," said Lo Wing-lok, an infectious disease expert in Hong Kong .

"According to my research, to date, most of the 20 per cent on the brink of failure have been revived thanks to the recovering economy," said Chen Naixing, economist and director of the academy's small business research centre."

China executes three times as many people as the rest of the world COMBINED... and uses mobile execution vans for efficiency.

"[China carries out] almost three times as many as the rest of the world put together, according to the most conservative estimate by Amnesty International. In 2008, the group confirmed 1,718 executions through news reports and public documents, but many others are not reported. Some analysts say the figure may be above 6,000. The exact number is a state secret."

Many executions are done on the road using vehicles such as those designed by Jinguan Motors:

"Makers of the death vans say the vehicles and injections are a civilized alternative to the firing squad, ending the life of the condemned more quickly, clinically and safely. The switch from gunshots to injections is a sign that China "promotes human rights now," says Kang Zhongwen, who designed the Jinguan Automobile death van in which "Devil" Zhang took his final ride."

China has 20% of the world’s population but only 7% of global water resources.

To make matters worse, 90% of cities’ groundwater and 75% of rivers and lakes are polluted according to the World Bank.

This means that 700 million people drink contaminated water every day.
